Soundwave formed at the end of 2010, just in time for holiday performances with Cascade Harmony Chorus. Members are Gail Shelton, tenor; Joyce Wheeler, lead; Sandy Cahill, baritone--(all three VERY experienced Sweet Adelines quartetters, with about 100 years of barbershop experience collectively among them!)--and the relatively new baritone-turned-bass, Marsha Kelly. All four members currently sing with Cascade Harmony Chorus; Sandy also sings with Pride of Portland.
The 2011 regional contest in Spokane was extremely exciting for the quartet. Scoring 600 points and watching Marsha win her first blue ribbon made it a very memorable weekend. Soundwave is honored to be Region 24’s first place champions! The quartet had a blast in Houston in October of 2011 representing the region at international contest, meeting many of the women who served as role models and just having fun!
Soundwave members are:
Gail Shelton, tenor, has 40-years with SAI. She is a semi-retired elementary school Reading Specialist in Vancouver, WA where she lives with her husband, Jeff. Gail has two grown sons and two gorgeous granddaughters.
Lead, Joyce Wheeler, is a California transplant of 7 years who lives in Beaverton, OR with her husband, Alan. Joyce has two international quartet medals (both 3rd place), which she won singing lead with Blue Razzberry Rhythm, along with many regional championship medals. She has been in SAI 38 years.
Sandy Cahill, baritone, is known around the Region for her directing skills (Cascade Harmony Chorus) as well as being on the Regional Music Faculty. Originally from New York, she brings a lot of "chutzpah" to her singing! Sandy lives in Lake Oswego, OR with her husband, Steve. She has been in SAI for 23 years.
The newest member of the group is Marsha Kelly, bass, who has been singing with SAI for 10 years. The daughter of long-time Sweet Adeline Margaret Bartlett, she has barbershop in her DNA. She and her husband Dennis reside in Beaverton, OR with their four sons. Marsha is a middle and high-school music teacher. She began singing bass less than a year ago and has been on a steep learning curve ever since!
Book Soundwave! The quartet entertains at private parties, corporate meetings, a cappella shows, retreats, conferences and pretty much anywhere music makes for an extra special event.
